This post describes not only what gelatin does in our bodies, but also what co-factors are ideal for its assimilation. Gelatin helps provide the building blocks (protein) our bodies need. Other important amino acids, such as proline and glutamine, are present in broth and stock as well. It also stimulates the production of stomach acid for proper digestion. It’s a neurotransmitter, guards against oxidative stress, and promotes healthy detoxification in the liver. The amino acid glycine is also present in gelatin (and collagen). In this way, gelatin helps stretch our healthy (and more expensive) meat purchases further by aiding our body to use other purchased protein completely. It is not a complete protein, yet it acts as a “protein sparer” - it helps the body fully use the other proteins that are consumed. Gelatin is a digestive aid, drawing fluid into the digestive system for easier digestion. This means you can use gelatin and collagen interchangeably in many recipes (see below), unless you need a recipe to gel (use gelatin instead of collagen) or you don’t want a recipe to gel (use collagen instead of gelatin). Gelatin and collagen have the same profile of essential amino acids, but gelatin gels because it has been hydrolyzed, whereas collagen doesn’t. Gelatin is very similar to collagen, and it’s what gives broth its “gel” once cooled. ![]() ![]() When collagen is simmered by making broth or stock, it is irreversibly hydrolyzed into gelatin. Our bodies need collagen for healthy skin, tendons, bones, cartilage, etc. Broth and stock contain collagen, the protein that makes up the bulk of our connective tissues. ![]() ![]() Help us eliminate the one-and-done trend in college basketball.Īt a media address last summer, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver hinted that modifications may be in the making. One of that group’s recommendations was more of a plea to the NBA and the players union: Pull back the age limit to make players eligible after high school. In response, the NCAA formed an independent Commission on College Basketball, led by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and tasked the group with examining critical issues in Division I men’s basketball and proposing solutions. But the stakes rose in September 2017 when the FBI announced it was investigating potentially corruptive practices in college basketball. The NBA age minimum has been controversial since its inception, with critics arguing that elite 18-year-old basketball players should have the freedom to choose between making millions as a pro or attending school as a student-athlete. Is basketball - both the college and pro games - better off without the 19-year-old age requirement for the NBA draft?Įven for one of the sport’s most polarizing issues, the considerations are nuanced for those closest to the questions. Leaders in the NBA are now grappling with a decision of their own: Does something need to be done about one-and-done? More than a decade later, the age minimum set by the NBA to benefit its game has influenced the college game, too. With that, the one-and-done era was born. After remarkable freshman debuts, both Oden and Durant left for the NBA, where they were drafted first and second, respectively, in 2007 and signed multimillion-dollar contracts. Another basketball prodigy, Kevin Durant, joined the Texas Longhorns and won multiple national player of the year awards that same year. Oden enrolled at Ohio State and went on to lead the Buckeyes to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Moving forward, draft entrants needed to be at least 19 years old during the calendar year of the draft and one year removed from the graduation date of their high school class before entering the league. The league and its players union announced a new rule that prevented players from entering the NBA draft straight out of high school. He saw value in both options.īut before his senior season even started, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association essentially made Oden’s decision for him. The NBA wasn’t going anywhere, and perhaps the college experience would prepare him for the next level. But Oden had been open to reporters about his interest in college. The opportunity to make millions in the NBA at the ripe age of 18 might seem like a no-brainer. ![]() ![]() And yet, so many spectators seemed to have the “right answer,” happily back-seat driving along each superstar’s route to the basket. It’s a choice countless young people every year dreamed of, but only a rare few faced. Should the teenage basketball phenom go to college as one of his class’ most highly recruited big men? Or, upon graduation, would he leap straight to the NBA, where the 7-foot, 250-pound center was already drawing comparisons to four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal? As a 17-year-old in 2005, while his Lawrence North High School classmates were deciding whom to ask to prom and where to go with their freshly minted driver’s licenses, Greg Oden weighed a different kind of decision - one that was outside the realm of possibility for his Indianapolis peers, and nearly everyone else in the world. ![]() ![]() Entering this charming village through the arched doorway, it is impossible not to be charmed by its cobbled streets and brightly painted half timber framed houses. ![]() ![]() I also have a Ryobi hand vacuum and a cheap Dewalt-to-ONE adapter. On the other hand, in a pinch it lets me suck all the available juice out of the battery, which can be a useful trade off. Using it involved making sure to keep checking the battery voltage monitor and swapping out after hitting the single-LED status. It will drain the battery to the point that it will not recharge without being boosted to get the cell voltages up to the minimum level acceptable to the charger. I bought one of those cheap clip-on inverters that takes the Dewalt batteries. After reading about the “activation” process that was supposed to be in some of the Ryobi tools, I dropped them from consideration which was probably a mistake. I’m not saying Ryobi tools aren’t up to constant use (I really have no idea about the ruggedness of the Dewalt tools either). If I had it to do again, I might have gone with cheaper tools (probably Ryobi) since I’m not a professional… I’ve really over-spent on tools/batteries that I just use occasionally. I’d avoided any significant battery-based tooling for years knowing that once I got into a battery system I’d be committed. I recently ended up getting into the Dewalt 20V ecosystem. ![]() All you need is for one cell to drop out of spec and the charger will refuse to charge. A combination of the worst possible conditions ofr battery life: more frequent recharging of battery packs that aren’t sufficiently discharged. Who wants to have a tool die in use… go ahead and swap batteries early and drop it on the charger. I suspect that shorter battery life may have more to do with frequent “topping off” of batteries before they are more fully discharged. I see the logic of the approach, and it makes sense in a way, but it makes the use of Dewalt batteries with 3rd party tools kind of risky. I believe that there is cutoff circuitry, its just in the tool instead of the battery and the cell balancing circuitry is in the charger (at least as far as the latest “20V” batteries and the brushless tool models are concerned). Q: There are a lot of players that are looking forward on creating content at the same time there are a lot of trolls who want to destroy user created content, what measures are taken to prevent this from happening? A: Destroying user created content is not easy compared to creating it. The amount of content is determined by the community. With this system, players don't need to farm and grind monsters alone to progress. If they fail to complete the quest, the person that created the quest will earn gold from the user that purchased the quest. A random adventurer can then accept that user created quest and earn gold from it. Q: If players can create and develop their own content, are there any rules or policies for it? A: If someone created a quest, like "Save the Princess." We will patch it in the game. The most challenging part a player might face is the process of creating a big town because they must gather 300-500 players in one area. Q: Does it take long for a player to make their own town or village? A: It doesn't take that long to create a landscape and buildings it's very easy. Q: Is there limitation on map sizes? A: There is a limitation on how large the maps players can own, but it won't be too small to play around with. Q: How big are the maps? A: Each regions has their own maps and players can own the maps and they all link to each other. The sandbox features of the game should keep everyone busy, especially the player made content. Q: How much of the content is available for the game? A: There are no fancy end game contents for Peria Chronicles like Siege Warfare because we want players to create their own content.
